Some of my favorite travel days are those where I have no plans and just wander around, camera in hand, without a worry in the world. That’s what I spent a majority of my time doing during this Sydney trip. My only two set plans were:
1. New Years Eve fireworks from Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair
2. Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb
SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE CLIMB
I’ve been wanting to do this for some time now, but during my prior visits to Sydney, I had been younger and always saving my pennies. This time though, with a stable job (and bank balance!) under my belt, I took the leap and booked it in without worrying or second guessing the $300 AUD price tag!
Was it worth it? Yes.
Was the climb challenging? No.
You don’t need to be super fit or in shape to make the climb because they use the best outdoor climbing ropes to keep you stable. You are securely chained during the entire climb duration and the stairs are not at all steep in the slightest. It’s a more leisurely climb at an enjoyable pace, with lots of stopping along the way.
Major downer – you are not allowed to take a camera. Even if the camera is strapped to you via a GoPro chest/head mount, still not allowed. This sucked because although your Bridge climb guide takes photos of you along the way, my Bridge climb instructor could not line a great shot up for the life of her, and all my photos came out looking like crap. It kills me knowing what a waste of good photo opportunities I lost by not having my camera own with me. Ah well. That, and purchasing the photo packages is, like all things in Australia, expensive.
Here’s the one decent photo of the lot that I purchased…
Now, onto the frolicking…
Christmas Tree in Martin Place
Took a wrong turn while trying to find the Bridge Climb address and stumbled amongst this cute little alleyway which led to some great photo opps…

LOVED coming across this alleyway in Angel Place – gave off a little bit of the artsy Melbourne vibe. These bird cages are suspended mid-air above this alley and make for some fantastic photo opps. If you’re a keen photographer, definitely suss it out.
Messina Gelato. A must have while in Sydney!

Dan is heading over to Sydney next month for work and wants to do the bride climb too but he wasn’t sure about spending that much on it. Was walking across the footpath section of the bridge the same view or nah?
Sarah, tell Dan it’s def worth the $$$. Walking across via the side walk section wasn’t the same, still some lovely views though!
Hi Sarah, I would defiantly tell Dan to consider doing to the walk to the top. My husband booked this for me, i was scared of heights but honestly the experience will blow you away. Its not at all scary, its a guided tour, takes a few hours and the views are magnificent. If your considering the bridge id definitely do the top walk if you have few hours spare. They take photos while your up there so you get the option to buy some memories if you wish when the tour is over- great experience.
