Using ‘I Want That Flight’ to Source the Best Airfare Deals

The amount of time I dedicate to researching cheap flights, deals or airline mileage promos is embarrassing. Even when I have no immediate travel planned, I still like to look… you know, just in case there is something that catches my eye… and credit card!

I’m no stranger when it comes to using flight ‘search engines’ to source cheap airfares, so I quite enjoyed being recently introduced to I Want That Flight, a 100% Australian owned and operated company (Melbourne, in fact – yay for hometown love)!

I Want That Flight

The sites main strengths lay within domestic Australian airfare searches, however it is still fully capable of providing fantastic international search results. Once you have found the airfare that you want, you are sent directly to the airline to book. The pros of this are no fees or commission, just an honest, straight up price. If a cheaper price for the same airfare can be found through another travel agent, then that is shown as an option as well.

Here’s a few ways I’ve found I Want That Flight’s search functionality to be useful…

DOMESTIC FLIGHTS

There are several ways to conduct an airfare search using I Want That Flight which I will outline below:

1. Set dates: If you need to travel on select dates, you can use the Domestic Flights function to select whether you want a one way or roundtrip flight. Put in your departure city and destination city as well as the hard set of dates you need to travel on and then conduct your search.

2. Anytime functionality: If you aren’t particular about dates and are just looking for the best deal available, you can use the Domestic Flights function to select roundtrip or one way, your departure city and destination city and then in the depart and return boxes, pull up the calendar and click the ‘Anytime’ box for each of them before conducting your search.

The next page (shown below) will provide you with a graph for each month showing the fluctuation in pricing for the route you selected depending on what day you choose to fly. You can scroll through each month to figure out the best deal available. In this example, $63 each way is the best deal for a Melbourne to Sydney roundtrip flight during the month of February. In order to pursue a fare, simply click on the blue bar for the day you’d like and I Want That Flight will bring up all the airline carrier options and times available.

INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS

The international flight function works similarly to the domestic one, only you’ll need to select International Flights from the top of the page. You can use the set dates option if you need to travel during a particular timeframe or the anytime function if you’re not locked into a certain time of the year and want to scope out the best airfare rates available. In the example below, I’ve highlighted a search from Melbourne to Los Angeles roundtrip flights for set dates.

And using that same flight route (Melbourne to Los Angeles roundtrip), but this time using the anytime function:

As international airfares tend to lean a little on the pricey side, this anytime search function is a great tool to be aware of, especially if you don’t have a set vacation date in mind and are free to go whenever you please. You could end up saving hundreds this way!!!

DEALS

Newsletter:

One of the neat features of I Want That Flight is that you never have to miss a deal on a flight out of your hometown again. You can sign up to their newsletter and receive an email whenever the cheapest deals are departing your city. Again, this is particularly useful if you don’t have any set travel dates. Spontaneity is awesome – you should try it!

Alerts:

One of the best functions provided though are flight alerts. This will enable you to enter the details of a flight you want to track (ie. Melbourne to Los Angeles) and the maximum price you would like to pay for that flight. As soon as the site finds a flight that fits, they’ll send you an email notification. This also works using flexible dates – easy peasy!

.

If you haven’t already, I highly recommend giving I Want That Flight a play with – you may just discover your spontaneous side and book yourself one of those anytime fares!
