Melbourne is such a photogenic city. In all my time living there, I never dedicated enough time to simply wandering around and capturing its beauty through my camera lens. Living in Melbourne and being on vacation in Melbourne though, are two different feelings. Living there, my days were consumed by work, family and friends, leaving little time to myself. These days though, returning home to visit is considered a vacation, so while friends and family are at work, I have the freedom at hand to give the stunningly beautiful Melbourne all the time and attention it truly deserves.
I could spend hours just aimlessly wandering around Melbourne, getting lost in its quirky suburbs and discovering things that I had simply once taken for granted while living there. There really is no other city quite like it.
Here’s another batch of photos I shot that perfectly encapsulate Melbourne’s vibrant personality…
1. Footscray Market Parking Garage Rooftop
To get to the rooftop, you’ll need to walk through the parking garage and take the stairs to the roof. There’s a big, empty area to shoot from and the city skyline views are fantastic!
My little bro was such a gracious model, haha.
So much character…
2. Brighton Beach
Brighton is a beach-side suburb of Melbourne and is roughly 11km south-east of the city. The shore-line views also make for some great skyline shots of the city.
3. Brighton Bathing Boxes
Nestled along Dendy Street Beach, you will find the Brighton Bathing Boxes. For many years in the late nineteenth century, Brighton was Melbourne’s favorite seaside destination, and these 82 unique bathing boxes are the only remaining structures of their kind close to the Melbourne CBD; they serve as a prominent cultural and historical icon amongst Melburnians.
Each bathing box is brightly decorated and when viewed together, they turn the beachscape into a collective work of art. I had been wanting to photograph these for the longest time and was so happy to finally be able to do so.
Trying out my new EF 50mm f/1.9 II lens on mum and dad…
4. Luna Park – St. Kilda
5. Princes Pier
Love that they preserved the pylons from the old Princes Pier – these can be viewed at the very end of the new Princes Pier. It’s become quite the iconic spot for photographers, especially at sunset!
6. Royal Exhibition Building
These first few were taken during our walk to the Royal Exhibition Building. I was digging the gorgeous, vintage-style Melbourne homes.

Thank you 🙂
Hello Lynda. Thank you for this post, it provided some good alternative shooting spots other than the obvious ones in the city of Melbourne. I have already done Brighton Beach but will make an effort to attend to the others. Great suggestions.
You’re welcome. Let me know how it goes for you – would love to see the photos if you ever put them up online.
Nice info about Melbourne. Thanks for sharing.
